Japanese Temari Balls
These are a traditional Japanese recyclying craft that originaly came from China. The core is a string wrapped ball (mabye with a rattle inside) and the outside is hand embrodiery, usually using Pearl Cotton thread and metallic threads, that are based on a geometric divison of the ball. They can be any size include buttons that I also make.
For those of you making Temari, I offer my version of the "measuring strips" that are used to layout your division on the ball. These are 1 cm wide with a red line denoting the center. The actually straigtness of the sides is not what is important, it's aligning the red line with your pin that is important.
