Round Peg In A Square Hole
2010 - December - Fire Scale Enameling
This is the 11th piece of this BJP. In addition to the enamel, I have used glass beads, silk ribbon (dyed by me), 2 colors of wire mesh, paper beads from Africa and agate beads.
Round Peg in a Square Hole... enamel was created using Fire Scale as a decorative element. Fire Scale is reddish or black areas, a result of the oxide in the copper turning color when heated. It can be removed via various methods or used as a decorative element. In this case, the reddish "dots" are at the top side of the design, but are hard to see in this photo. However, they are easier to see if you roll your mouse over the image to see it flip to just the jewel. I used unleaded enamels and a gold decal on top.
